Celebrating the End of a Journey
By: Courtney Floyd
Last Friday I found myself sitting in one of Dallas’ premier tattoo studios—Blink Custom Art—to support a sweet friend of mine during her final phase of her breast reconstruction journey. A year ago last summer, April was diagnosed with breast cancer. After consulting with different surgeons, she chose to travel to PRMA for immediate DIEP flap breast reconstruction.
Recovered from her surgery she began to contemplate the finishing touches for her newly reconstructed breasts. After a lot of research and some inspiration from a close co-worker, April decided to complete her new look with a purple rose tattoo
“I knew my nipples were never going to fully match color wise since I had nipple-sparing mastectomy on one side and not the other,” she said when I asked why she chose the rose rather than the more traditional nipple/areola tattoo. “I figured I should do something fun and purple is my favorite color!”
Because the day would be the final chapter of her breast reconstruction journey we turned the appointment into a special event! With close friends there for support and delicious cupcakes to enjoy, the day was a wonderful success filled with lots of stories, laughter, and admiration of a beautiful warrior! Congratulation April on the close of this chapter and the beginning of a new!
