Giving Tuesday 2016
By: Courtney Floyd
Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving powered by social media and community partnership. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the popular shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is the perfect way to start off the season of giving.
One of the best ways to get involved is in your own community! Here are just a few San Antonio organizations that work with breast cancer patients every day! Happy giving!
Thrivewell Cancer Foundation provides eligible adult cancer patients with financial assistance towards their cancer treatment. They also provide transportation assistance for active cancer treatment throughout San Antonio. Their goal is to allow cancer patients to live their lives as normally and worry-free as possible.
Central to the mission of ThriveWell Cancer Foundation is the development of community-based programs that directly enhance the quality of life for cancer patients and survivors. LiveWell programs are designed to improve the health and welfare of families facing the challenge of a cancer diagnosis. Their programs offer support beyond treatment and focus on prevention and survivorship.
WINGS is designed to fill the gap that exists between breast cancer detection and treatment. For many Central and South Texas uninsured women, WINGS is their only option for what is hoped to be life-saving care and treatment. WINGS utilizes a network of physicians and treatment centers to give these women a real chance at fighting this deadly disease. Beyond treatment, WINGS works in concert with organizations dedicated to education and outreach.
WINGS offers lifetime comprehensive breast health care services to women in Central and South Texas. Once a women is selected for the WINGS program, enrollment is for a lifetime.
Pink Warrior Angels is focused on providing direct support to those that have been diagnosed with breast cancer. They believe no one should ever feel alone in their battles. The Pink Warrior Angels act on personal experience from their own personal battles with breast cancer by providing resources, financial assistance, and most importantly emotional support to other warriors through their angel/warrior program.
Pink Warrior Angels was created to fulfill needs that survivors felt were lacking during their breast cancer battles. Both co-founders know what it feels like to go through a breast cancer diagnosis feeling alone and confused. From the moment a women is diagnosed, their entire life can take a turn and though they may not realize it at first, seeking support through those that have experienced and conquered their own battles with cancer, is something they believe can help them along their journey. No one should ever have to fight this battle feeling alone. While it may be difficult to acknowledge the need for this type of support, Pink Warrior Angels encourages their warriors to seek that support in a more personal way by providing them with an angel to carry them through.
Their mission is to end breast cancer by assisting patients, informing health professionals and policymakers, and expanding knowledge through education and community outreach.
ABCF advances its mission and strives to achieve its vision in the following ways:
