As a native Texan, board-certified microsurgeon Dr. Merceron is excited to return to his roots in San Antonio. He earned his bachelor degrees in Plan II Honors and Cell & Molecular Biology at the University of Texas at Austin and continued on to medical school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. He completed residencies in both General Surgery and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Early in his training, Dr. Merceron developed a passion for the restoration of anatomic form and physiologic function and the concept of replacing “like with like”. To this end, he completed his surgical training with a fellowship in Reconstructive Microsurgery at the renowned University of Pennsylvania / Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, PA, focusing on autologous breast reconstruction, peripheral nerve surgery, and limb salvage / orthoplastic surgery.

I found PRMA after 6 cancer and reconstruction surgeries. Dr Merceron performed a latissimus flap on me in May. The results were life changing. I can’t begin to say enough wonderful things about Dr Merceron as a physician and person in general but he is a reconstruction genius. He is a rare combination of extreme talent and extreme kindness! His beautiful, sweet nurse Natalie and the entire staff at PRMA could not have been better. You’re in good hands.

From the very first day, PRMA, Dr. Merceron and nurse Natalie have been an absolute godsend in my breast cancer journey. I walked in terrified, overwhelmed, and facing something that would change my body and my life — but I never once felt alone. Every step of the way, they made me feel comfortable, confident, and reassured that I would one day feel whole again. Dr. Merceron has a rare gift. He listens. He supports. And most importantly, he makes his patients feel safe during one of the most vulnerable experiences anyone can go through. His calm presence and genuine care carried me through moments I didn’t think I could handle. Despite the physical and emotional trauma that comes with breast cancer and reconstruction, my experience has been incredibly positive — far more than I ever expected. I truly cannot imagine having gone through this with anyone other than Dr. Merceron and the entire PRMA team. They have changed my life, and I am endlessly grateful for the compassion, skill, and humanity they’ve shown me. I recommend them with my whole heart.

Dr Merceron is a great surgeon. His bedside manner is amazing. He has the ability to put you at ease and never makes you feel rushed during appointments. He explains things in a thoughtful manner providing all possible options and encourages you to ask questions. After 1 surgery I trust him enough to follow all his recommendations. He and his nurse Natalie make a great team. They are an asset to the PRMA group.

I went in for a prophylactic mastectomy after being tested positive for BRCA1. Was terrified to have the surgery but the results came out better than expected. I’m only 4 weeks post op and have had some worries During the healing process but Dr.Merceron has reassured many times which he’s been correct about it all so far. While it was such a big leap to do all this, it’s been worth it. Thank you PRMA
