Brilliant surgeon. He can literally create breasts out of the skin and the fat from your belly! After my late stage breast cancer diagnosis and a years worth of chemo, radiation, immunotherapy and mastectomy, my oncology surgeon told me that I was insanely lucky to have the best group of breast reconstruction surgeons in the US right here in San Antonio - PRMA. I was about to have my second (prophylactic) mastectomy and that surgeon urged me to see Dr. Gassman before hand because if I chose reconstruction, it could all be done at the same time. I was uneducated and thought reconstruction meant implants but to my surprise, Dr. Gassman specializes in DIEP flap reconstruction, which uses your own skin and fat and blood supply to create soft, warm, natural feeling breasts. And then I found out that the amount of radiation I had made me a poor candidate for implants anyway so I chose DIEP flap. I knew nothing about the surgery and was a little apprehensive but I needn't have been. Dr. Gassman and his excellent staff fully prepared me for every aspect of the surgery, as well as the post op recovery period. They counseled me extensively about eating a high protein diet before surgery to enhance healing, everything that would happen during my 2 day hospital stay, and gave me a detailed activity list for my recovery at home. I can honestly say there were zero surprises and that the entire reconstruction journey has been excellent. I also had almost no pain, thanks to Dr. Gassman's extensive knowledge of pain management techniques. Dr Gassman is exceeding kind and solitious of my comfort. He's extremely patient, answering every question I had. He explains things thoroughly. And the results are so much better than I could ever have hoped for! I have natural feeling breasts now that fill out my clothing again and look surprisingly great. If you are a woman who is fighting or has beaten breast cancer and you are looking at reconstruction, I highly recommend Dr. Gassman. And if you are a woman of advanced age, don't let that stop you. I am almost 70 and I have had a wonderful recovery! PRMA's philosophy is that all women deserve to have their bodies returned to them after breast cancer treatment and they are masters at this

Dr. Gassman is kind and compassionate. He is a master at what he does. My results exceeded my expectations and gave me confidence that was taken away by a year of cancer treatment. My husband and I can’t say enough good things about him and PRMA!

Nearly 6 months ago, I underwent breast explant surgery due to severe capsular contraction, combined with an immediate breast lift—both of which were expertly accomplished by Dr. Andrew Gassman & his team from PRMA. Although capsular contraction is not typically considered life threatening, severe cases cause significant chronic pain, autoimmune illnesses & hardness and deformity of the breasts; all of which I dealt with for years & thought I would have to live with. Because PRMA focuses on breast cancer, I’m not discounting the gravity of such a diagnosis, but BII is very real & can be emotionally & physically debilitating. I’m not discounting the use of breast implants either; they just didn’t work out for me. After my surgery, I felt like a weight had been lifted off my chest—literally! After consultations with several different area surgeons & extensive research on my part, I chose Dr. Gassman to do my surgery. I submitted a 5-Star review several weeks after my surgery & follow-up appointments. The reason I’m submitting this sequential review is because I wanted to give my reconstruction a few additional months beyond the follow-up checks to realistically assess the results—I can honesty say I am very happy with the results, not to mention that I feel 100 percent better & I love my new perky breasts—albeit they’re a bit scarred, but I can live with that & know the scars will fade. I believe 6 months is a sufficient amount of time to more realistically gauge the success of this type of surgery. I also wanted to give kudos to Dr. Gassman & the PRMA staff again. His skills as a gifted surgeon & compassionate physician are paramount(!) & PRMA’s entire staff are some of the most compassionate medical professionals I have encountered in my 72 years. Sadly, we Women put so much pressure & judgement on ourselves & physical features, often to our emotional & physical detriment. We really should give ourselves more grace. Some of that pressure is self-inflicted (as was my case) & some of it is through no fault of our own (medical diagnosis). Regardless of the reason, choosing the right surgeon & medical facility makes all the difference. Like countless other Women looking for answers & a way forward when dealing with a medical issue, I initially used Google as a starting point, but after much prayer & research, I knew that God had led me to PRMA & Dr. Gassman. I researched possible remedies for my condition & read each prospective physician’s CV & board certifications. I also read the Women’s personal testimonials & reviews on the PRMA web site, as well as other medical review sites. For me, PRMA was the logical choice, simply because the staff & surgeons are dedicated to “making Women feel valued & whole again.” I firmly believe it is important to recognize people for their exceptionalism & compassion. I apologize for not naming individual medical staff at PRMA; I didn’t want to forget someone, so I am praising the entire staff! I also believe it is important for prospective patients to have a reputable forum to read honest reviews & make an informed decision. I believe the PRMA website provides that forum. I realize this review is a bit of a dissertation, but if I can point one Woman in the direction of a facility dedicated to helping Women, I’m happy. Ultimately, any medical decision of importance, requires thoughtful introspection, research & prayer. For anyone who is considering breast surgery due to a medical diagnosis or for cosmetic reasons, I highly recommend PRMA & Dr. Andrew Gassman; you will not be disappointed. Again, thank you for allowing me to submit a review again on the PRMA web site. God Bless you Dr. Gassman & the entire PRMA staff—Y’ALL ROCK!!!

My appointment with Dr. Gassman at PRMA was a very positive experience. Dr. Gassman was very professional and very personable. He explained everything regarding DIEP flap reconstruction with a double mastectomy due to breast cancer, answered all my questions and even took time to draw a great example of the surgical procedure. After meeting Dr. Gassman and the staff at PRMA I have complete trust in their ability to do my mastectomy and reconstruction.
