My Biography
Dr. Sabino Tamez Lara IV brings a depth of surgical training focused specifically on the complex, delicate work of rebuilding what breast cancer takes away. He completed his medical degree at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, followed by a general surgery residency at the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School. He then pursued advanced subspecialty training at the University of Southern California's Keck Medical School, completing a fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, followed by a specialized fellowship in Microsurgical Reconstruction — training designed for surgeons who focus on the most intricate, tissue-based approaches to rebuilding the body after cancer.
Throughout his training, Dr. Lara has shown a consistent commitment to leadership and education. He served as Administrative Chief Resident in Plastic Surgery at USC Keck Medical School and was elected to the Berne Society of Academic Surgeons. At Dell Medical School, he was President of the Resident Leadership Council and mentored fellow residents, reflecting a dedication to teaching that he carries into his communication with patients — breaking down complex surgical concepts into information women can use to make confident decisions.
Dr. Lara's academic contributions are also extensive, including presentations at institutions such as Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Stanford University, and Kaiser Permanente, as well as multiple peer-reviewed publications. This background reflects a physician who is not only technically skilled but also deeply invested in advancing reconstructive surgery for patients who need it most.
Finally, Dr. Lara was selected as a Chief Resident Participant for the Stanford Microsurgery Free Flap Course. This distinction reflects the strength of his microsurgical training as he brings these skills to PRMA patients.
