q&a with PRMA surgeons

Are you considering breast reconstruction and have questions regarding your options or would like more information on a specific procedure?

PRMA Plastic Surgeons Dr. Oscar Ochoa and Dr. Gary Arishita will answer your breast reconstruction questions live on Friday April 5th from 10am-12pm central time.

You can submit your questions through Twitter, Facebook and even watch live video at PRMA’s Google+ Hangout.

With one out of 8 women being diagnosed with breast cancer every year, PRMA is hoping that the live session will help raise awareness of the breast reconstruction options available to women after a mastectomy or lumpectomy.

Over 70% of women are unaware of advanced breast reconstruction techniques like the DIEP flap procedure, which uses the patient’s own skin and tissue to create a natural feeling breast(s).

Tune in live, submit your questions and learn more about breast reconstruction after breast cancer!

Will latissimus dorsi flap surgery make back look very bad? Need help decide if just do tissue expand or do lat-dorsi plus tissue expand. Why do lat-dorsi plus tissue expand when doesn’t just tissue expand give the same final looking result, and then maintain the back? Trying to decide which for mid April.

I underwent a left breast , Latissimus flap with expander implant in October 2012 , after 20 years after having a mastectomy , unfortunately for me back then reconstruction wasn’t an option , after a lovely holiday abroad 3 years ago with some very close friends , all female we got around to the subject of me , my operation and my options , so on our return I made an appointment with my doctor and asked for a referral, , which came a few weeks later, I went for my first appointment ,he examined me and explained what he could do, that was it , I asked to see some of his work and on our next meeting he had brought his laptop and I saw the results of his work , that was enough for me I was amazed, gobsmacked in fact and at what he had done and said he could do for me ,and I trusted him totally from that day on. He asked did I want to be put on the waiting list which was around 18 months , it seemed a long time to wait as I wanted it done now ;~) and what was 18 months after 20 years. the reason they do it this way is so there is a pocket to put the expander in , which is your own tissue , the scar on my back runs from my spine up to just under my armpit, and is barely visible , its there and its done a wonderful job and I love it , I can tell you from my experience there was no pain , very uncomfortable in my back , but nothing to the mastectomy , I am still having work done, near the end now and cant wait to go bra shopping . I hope this is a help to you good luck x
