What is DIEP flap reconstruction recovery like?

Many believe DIEP flap breast reconstruction will be a more painful experience compared to implants.  They also believe the DIEP flap recovery will take longer compared to implants.  These are common misconceptions.  In fact, recent studies show implant-based reconstruction patients report more pain and use more narcotics compared to DIEP flap reconstruction patients.

Thanks to our ERAS (Enhced Recovery After Surgery) Protocol, our patients are healing faster and experiencing less pain after surgery!  Every patient experience will vary, but majority of our patients do not need narcotics for pain after surgery and are able to go home after three days.

Here are just a few of their stories:

    Hello everyone:
I just want to share my experience with you. My dr. was the great king of diep Dr. Pisano, such an awesome down to earth Dr. I had my diep flap procedure in 10/2016 i must say it was a pretty lengthy procedure about 8-9 hours.Mine was nipple sparing so it stayed awesome. The stay at Methodist hospital was 4 days but did not experience hardly any pain. I only took Tylenol no narcotics needed. The team at PRMA went every morning to see me at my room to check up on me. Just want to say my experience with PRMA and Dr. Pisano was the best and would recommend these guys to anyone that is considering this procedure. Good day to all and best wishes
