PRMA Plastic Surgery has hit a new milestone! On October 3, 2016, the surgeons performed their 6,500th free flap breast reconstruction surgery!
“This is truly and impressive landmark, says practice co-founder Dr. Peter Ledoux, “I am so honored and privileged to work with such great men and women who have dedicated so much of their lives to helping others overcome cancer!”
PRMA is one of the few centers in the world performing breast reconstruction on such a large scale and is leading the way in advanced reconstructive procedures like the DIEP flap. Microsurgical breast reconstruction using tissue flaps represents the state of the art in reconstructive breast surgery after mastectomy. The tissue removed by the mastectomy is replaced with the patient’s own living tissue from another area of the body (lower abdomen, inner thigh, etc.) to recreate a “natural”, warm, soft breast.
“We are so happy to have reached this milestone of 6500 flaps! It means we have touched thousands of lives in a very positive way. We are so happy to be a committed team with the skills, knowledge and compassion to provide permanent, living tissue reconstruction for thousands of patients,” Dr. Chet Nastala says, “We are dedicated to making natural tissue reconstruction even better, improving recovery, and touching more lives!”
