Is is possible to travel for breast reconstruction?
Unfortunately when it comes to breast reconstruction, some women will have to travel away from home to get the surgery they want.
Procedures like the DIEP flap are not widely performed due to the complexity of the surgery and limited number of surgeons specializing in microsurgical reconstruction.
“There was not a doctor trained in Alaska to do the procedure that I wanted,” says PRMA patient Erika Sudz. “I ended up having implants and was not happy.”
Sudz traveled to PRMA where she was able to have the implants removed and replaced with DIEP flaps by Dr. Chet Nastala.
PRMA surgeons routinely see patients from across the country and are in-network with most major insurance companies.
