Today marks four weeks post bilateral prophylactic mastectomy & immediate DIEP flap with Dr. Pisano. I’m s/p right DCIS. The recovery was way easier than I expected. I’d say the pain was controlled well, but there really wasn’t much pain. Initially standing was quite uncomfortable but I got the hang of it. The staff and surgeons at PRMA are some of the kindest and most skilled medical professionals I’ve met (and I work in the medical field). Thank you PRMA and Methodist Hospital!!!

Due to Ductal Carcinoma Insitu, I opted for a double mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction. 

Dr. Pisano and his team performed the 10-hour surgery where they removed all breast tissue, sparing the skin and nipples. They removed tissue from my abdomen, giving me a ‘tummy tuck’ in the process. Every step was explained to me prior to surgery. I stayed in the hospital for 2 days, walking the morning after surgery. They have a FANTASTIC recovery protocol which controlled my pain so well I never took a narcotic! The folks at PRMA in San Antonio, TX are absolutely THE BEST!!! (One of my greatest fears was waking up with nothing on my chest and feeling deformed). Thanks to PRMA I had the reconstruction at the same time as the mastectomy so this fear was completely eliminated! I am now cancer-free, have a ‘new’ bustline as well as a flatter tummy. As I am expecting my very first grandson, this all means more to me than words can express!!! Thanks!

Dr. Pisano is very knowledgeable and an artist in his field. He thoroughly explained all the options available and answered my questions. I felt very confident about my surgery despite my very complicated case. The hospital staff that Dr. Pisano works with at Methodist Hospital are very good. They work as a team to give you seamless care. I followed all the instructions before and after surgery. PRMA has the flap procedures down to a science. I was healing well then back up and going before I knew it. The ability to recover without narcotics and anesthesia hangover is well planned out. Dr. Pisano is up for any breast reconstruction challenge. It was a huge challenge! His final aesthetics are tops in his field. I am blessed to have him as my doctor. You will not be disappointed!

I’m so glad I found PRMA and Dr. Pisano. The level of care and concern was amazing. He spent time talking to me about the surgery as well as just chatting. Meeting with him made it so much easier to let go of my fear and to have another surgery. I am 3 weeks post-op for stage 1, and I am doing great. I have lots of minor aches and pains but they seem to get better every day. I’m walking a lot and feeling normal mentally and emotionally. I am waiting for the swelling to go away and to be released from wearing the abdominal binder. Looking forward to my next appointment and getting on the calendar for stage 2. Impressed with the staff from start to finish once I got my appointment. It did take well over 4 months for a consultation but once I was in, everything has been very smooth. I am 11 days post-op and headed to my first in-person appointment since I am traveling from Corpus. I hope the rest of my journey continues to be this smooth. I will update if need be but overall, people travel from all over to come here for a reason!

When I pulled into the PRMA parking lot, I was scared and thought that maybe risk reduction (prophylactic) mastectomy and reconstruction surgery was more than I was ready to do. My odds of having breast cancer were unacceptably high due to the mutated BRCA gene. However, after my first appointment with Dr. Pisano, who came highly recommended from a former patient, I was at ease and signed up for surgery! I could not be more pleased with the professionalism of Dr. Pisano, Kathleen, Amy, and the rest of the staff at PRMA. I felt confident that I had made a well-educated decision. I cannot say enough positive things about their protocol for surgery and pain management! I am delighted with the end result of the surgery. Dr Pisano delivered exactly what I had requested and we had discussed. San Antonio is a four hour drive for me, and being a patient of Dr. Pisano was definitely worth the drive!

That really brought calm to my nerves and my husband’s right before surgery. I followed all the instructions before and after surgery and I was back up and going in 3 weeks. I was back at work at 4 weeks. My incisions are hardly noticeable. The ability to recover so quickly really shows how much experience Dr. Pisano has. I am BRCA positive and I attended a FORCE conference in PA to begin my research to seek out what direction I was going to go. After learning all the different options and having an opportunity to talk to so many people that are BRCA positive I decided that I didn’t want to sit across a desk to be told I had breast cancer. So I started my search for just the right surgeon. PRMA kept coming up the more I talked to people about my situation. I started my reconstructive surgery with an expander put in when I had my mastectomy. A month later my primary doctor sent me for an mri for a problem I was having with my right shoulder. Because of the medal in the expander the mri burnt me from the inside out. I got a real bad infection and the expander had to be removed. When I was healed and ready for reconstruction I found out there was no one in town that could do the surgery I needed. I was first sent to MD Anderson which told me the recovery would be to hard for someone my age and would not do it. I then went to PRMA and had the surgery. That was six weeks ago and I am feeling great and doing most everything I normally do. Thank you all at PRMA

It has been a privilege to be Dr. Pisano’s patient. In June of 2015, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and after speaking with the doctor about my options for surgery he inspired confidence in me that everything would be fine.The day of surgery I was not nervous at all. When I asked him questions he was sincere with his response about my expectations and the length of time to be considered, there were no surprises. He spoke with my family and I before the surgery and he was relaxed and confident. This experience was exceptional. The results from the reconstructive surgery are excellent, he has helped me to get my life back. I would recommend him because he cares about his patients and his standard of care is very high. I’ll was diagnosed with breast cancer March 3, 2014 and had a bilateral mastectomy on March 31st. After healing I did chemotherapy, luckily with no radiation, and finished that September 3. In October I saw a local plastic surgeon that informed me of my options for reconstruction. After a lot of research i decided to do the DIEP flap. As no one in my state does that procedure, I did more research. A lot more! I decided PRMA was the place for me! Dr. Pisano and his staff are the best. Because i live out of state, I chose the 2 day turn-around to save a trip, and also because I knew, (after reading everything on their web page and talking to them on the phone and through emails) that I didn’t need the face to face consult I originally thought I needed! I saw Dr. Pisano on Monday, April 20, 2015 and had DIEP flap reconstruction on April 22. I went back to San Antonio in September for phase 2. Without a doubt, there cannot be any physicians anywhere that are more skilled, compassionate, or devoted than the ones at PRMA. I will do phase 3 locally, probably in December. I couldn’t be happier with the results of my reconstruction and will be eternally grateful to Dr. Pisano and the entire staff at PRMA.

I had both breasts reconstructed by Dr Pisano after an oncologic surgeon removed the breast tissue due to receiving a diagnosis of Stage II invasive ductal carcinoma. Dr Pisano took the time to answer all my questions, giving me all the information I needed to feel comfortable about the reconstructive process and about his expertise to do it. He is an excellent surgeon, with many years of experience. His attention to detail in the reconstruction was superior. I was in the hospital for five days, and either Dr Pisano or Dr Ochoa, who assisted in the reconstruction, followed up with me every day I am very happy to recommend PRMA – not only did I have a great experience with Dr Pisano and his staff, I’ve heard nothing but excellent things about all the members of the PRMA group.

Looking back at my journey I’m blessed to have found PRMA and Dr Pisano. I was talking to a friend of a friend about an oncologist in San Antonio when she told me about Dr Ledoux. I called to schedule an appt and the sweet Receptionist told me he was booked but Dr Pisano had an opening that day. Who is Dr Pisano I asked???? We’ll let me tell you.. What I appreciate and respect about Dr Pisano is his honesty and authenticity. The number of surgeries he’s performed speaks for itself but never did I feel like the next patient. He genuinely cares for women who are dealing with breast cancer and goes above and beyond to make sure you feel comfortable. I’ve often said that as a women I would not let just anyone cut my hair so I certainly would not let anyone perform surgery on my breast.
